about

It’s not all cream teas and blue rinse brigade on the British Riviera and Gold Blend is here to prove it. Hailing from East Devon (yes, Devon) Gold Blend is taking rap out of the city and making it relatable to people in seaside towns all over the UK.

The self-proclaimed “best rapper in the South West” started making bedroom beats at college when a knee injury stopped him playing football for 9 months. Initially inspired by U.S. rappers like Jay-Z and Kanye West Gold Blend soon developed a taste for UK talent like Kano, Chip and Skepta.

The beats progressed to song writing – something his dad did as a teenager – but after college music took a back seat. “I’d always pick it back up every few months and write a new beat or rap” he explains. “You don’t forget about something you’re so passionate about.”

With all the spare time during lockdown and a bit of encouragement from a friend Gold Blend started brewing beats and bars in earnest and hasn’t looked back since.

“I do this because it’s something that allows me to escape” the rapper explains. “It’s something that doesn’t have a right or wrong way of doing it, you just do what feels right. It’s something that can’t hurt you.”

Gold Blend premiered his debut single “Merk" on BBC Introducing In The South West and here’s what presenter Sarah Gosling (@sarahgozzo) had to say about him and the track:

“…a massive contender for (Fave Find) because my word the delivery, the emphasis and the sass. A brand new artist Gold Blend - marked him out from the off…

Gold Blend is on it. He’s already claiming on his first track “Best rapper in the South West” so I mean, every other rapper, every other MC, you’re seeing this right?

…so slick on the production, LOVE IT”
